Scientists have confirmed the existence of gravitational waves. It proves a theory that was proposed by Einstein around 100 years ago. The Russians have announced that they will do their best impression of a Michael Bay movie, and try to blow up the asteroid Apophis as it passes by the Earth in 2036. Speaking of Michael Bay movies and blowing stuff up, Transformers 5, 6 and 7 have their release dates, just in case you're still interested in that kind of thing. Plus, there was big news in the Star Trek universe. Bryan Fuller has been tapped as the showrunner for the new CBS Star Trek series that will headline their new streaming channel. Fuller is a life-long Star Trek fan and former writer for both DS9 and Voyager so the news has Keith and Elliott both more bullish on the project.

While he was appearing at Universal Orlando’s "A Celebration of Harry Potter" event, Rupert Grint, a.k.a. Ron Weasley, told The Huffington Post he thinks Ron and Hermione’s marriage wouldn’t have lasting power. Elliott Serrano and Keith Conrad discuss the potential problems with the Weasley's relationship. Also, if a love like that can't last, what hope is there for the rest of us? These days it seems all the rage to bring back popular shows for a new, albeit limited run. The X-Files a resurgence, plus later this month Netflix is bringing back Full House and now there is news that they will also be reuniting The Gilmore Girls as well. Elliott and Keith have a few other ideas for shows that need a comeback. Plus, in a statement almost guaranteed to make Elliott's head explode, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder has responded to critics of his movie by saying the Man of Steel version of Superman is "true canon" and his simply doesn't understand why some people didn't like it.

Elliott Serrano and Keith Conrad tackle the debate the captured the world's attention this week: Is the Earth really flat? Believe it or not, this is actually an issue. Rapper B.o.B. went on a Twitter rampage during the week claiming that we've all been duped and he could prove the Earth is actually flat. Neil deGrasse Tyson quickly refuted the allegation, just in case you were worried about it. Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow says that he would like to shoot part of the movie in space, which would be a first for a Star Wars movie. Wouldn't that be a bit of a waste of time, money and effort though? The X-Files are back, to some mixed reviews. Elliott and Keith shared their thoughts on the revival. Plus, Keith found himself in the middle of a raucous debate over the weekend, with friends wondering who the superior spy is: James Bond or Jack Ryan.

Netflix has announced that Jessica Jones will be returning for a second season. Keith is decidedly more happy about this news than Elliott. A teenage Princess Leia will be making an appearance on the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Plus, there are rumors out there that James Earl Jones will be playing the voice of Darth Vader again, this time in the spinoff movie Rogue One. Plus, Alan Rickman died suddenly this week at the age of 69. Rickman had been battling cancer, but much like David Bowie, who also died this week, he had kept the battle out of the public eye. Elliott and Keith talked about the pretty monumental impact that Rickman has had on pop culture in the past twenty-plus years.

NASA has announced that they've opened an office that will focus exclusively on making sure that we find any space rocks that might obliterate life on Earth as we know it. Elliott and Keith both agree that's a wise investment. An eight year old girl from Evanston took on the mighty Hasboro toy empire and won. Carrie Goldman wrote a letter to them for leaving the character of Rey out of their Star Wars The Force Awakens Monopoly set. Rey is basically the most important character in the film, so it’s a little perplexing why they’d leave her out. Carrie wrote in adorable eight year old handwriting that “boys and girls need to see women can be as strong as men.” Hasboro says that a new version of the game with Rey will be available later this year. Plus, a sci-fi author says that by the year 2040-2055 there will be so many artificially intelligent lifeforms out there that a robot uprising is inevitable. Elliott thinks that may be overly optimistic, and it will happen much sooner than that, while Keith believes we will never have to worry about our robot overlords taking over.

Keith spent the better part of the weekend parked in front of his TV watching the New Years Twilight Zone marathon. It's become a tradition for him. This year he realized that there are some very valuable life lessons that can be learned from watching The Twilight Zone. Plus, there's been a disturbing pattern recently in stories of all kinds, from Star Trek to Star Wars and even the Rocky movies: They introduce us to a kind and wise old man who helps guide the hero of the story, and then they kill him off. Sure, they say it's so the hero can grow but Keith and Elliott both agree it's time for it to stop.

Just a word of warning, you should definitely wait to listen to this podcast until *after* you've seen The Force Awakens, as it is just loaded with spoilers. Paramount has released the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond. It didn't go over very well with just about anyone. Even actor and writer Simon Pegg said he was surprised by it and promised that it was less of an action pic and more of a Star Trek movie than had been portrayed by the trailer. Keith still holds out hope, while Elliott renews his objection to just about anything Simon Pegg is involved in. Also, Star Wars The Force Awakens has finally hit theaters. Keith got to take a bit of a victory lap, since almost all of his predictions from last week turned out to be true, much to Elliott's chagrin.

They've released the first trailer for Independence Day Resurgence. Keith is pleasantly surprised and might actually see it when it comes out in June. Meanwhile, Elliott points out a disturbing fact about President Whitmore in the original 1996 movie. Speaking of Presidents, Donald Trump told a reporter that he really like the way Harrison Ford stood up to terrorists in the movie Air Force One. Ford reminded Trump that it was a movie, not reality. All of this talk of fictional Presidents got Keith and Elliott discussing which fictional POTUS they'd like to see in the Oval Office. Plus, as the entire world prepares to pause briefly to watch Star Wars The Force Awakens, Elliott and Keith share some final predictions for the movie. They both hope they're wrong.
