Sylvie Tannhauser’s enthusiasm for champagne is infectious (a very good thing)! With a Champagne Master Designation from the French Wine Society (among many wine certifications), Sylvie introduced us to her first “adult” champagne she ever tasted, the Pommery Royal Brut NV. We thought it most fitting that she chose to feature a champagne house headed by a woman in the 1800s (Louise Pommery), a rarity in that era. And also that it was Madame Pommery who created the first brut champagne to meet with commercial success in 1874, thereby breaking with the tradition of very sweet wine. Women have always been great innovators!
While we were enjoying the delightfully creamy Pommery, Sylvie regaled us with tales of her travels from the Caribbean to Paris and beyond, finally landing in Napa Valley. She is a bilingual wine and hospitality professional hailing from the French Caribbean with more than ten years’ experience creating memorable wine experiences around the world. She began her career at the French Tourist Office which led her to an adventurous career path organizing high-end wine tastings, designing wine tours and providing sommelier services to wine enthusiasts and collectors in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States.
Sylvie held several positions in the luxury, hospitality and wine industries before relocating to Napa Valley, CA where she had the opportunity to work for prestigious wineries such as Dalla Valle Vineyards, Charles Krug Winery, Vintners Collective, John Anthony, Peju Province Winery and Domaine Carneros. She currently works at Cakebread Cellars as their Assistant Guest Experience Manager.
She was awarded the prestigious title of “Wine & Culinary Travel Insider” by American Express Travel for her expertise in luxury wine and culinary travel, holds several wine and business credentials, and is currently pursuing her Certified Wine Educator (CWE) designation through the Society of Wine Educators.
Sylvie graduated from l’École Supérieure de Commerce (ESICAD) in France with a degree in Global Communication Strategy and is on the Board of Directors of the Wine Women organization, serving as Membership Director.
In her free time, Sylvie enjoys working on her champagne guide, hosting wine tastings, playing the violin, cooking, and taking short spontaneous trips.
