What happens when live music invades the sacred fluorescent kingdom of Buc-ee’s? Apparently, nothing good.
This week on Jackalope Tales, Charles and Lisa hit the highway for an episode fueled by brisket, Beaver Nuggets, questionable decisions, and musicians who dared to bring live music dangerously close to America’s cleanest bathrooms.
Charles tells the story of Keith Urban, who performed at a Buc-ee’s and turned out to be the perfect honorary employee—friendly, professional, hardworking, and presumably capable of pointing you toward Pump #147 without breaking eye contact. Keith wasn’t the problem. His fans were. What seemed like a fun little concert quickly demonstrated why combining a superstar, a gas station, and several thousand excited humans might be a worse idea than gas-station sushi in August.
Lisa brings the tale of an Austin band that was told they couldn’t perform at Buc-ee’s. So they respected that decision like mature adults…by moving next door, setting up their gear, and playing anyway. Because nothing says Texas diplomacy quite like, “Fine. We’ll be six feet off your property line.”
It’s music. It’s mayhem. It’s passive-aggressive busking with access to 120 gas pumps.
